Anyone know of a good (preferably freeware) MD5 checksum utility that runs from within windoze?
I've downloaded the fciv from MS, but it doesn't seem to be up to much.

I use Hash on click from here (http://www.2brightsparks.com/freeware/freeware-hub.html). It adds an entry to the right click context menu for files...it allows you to generate md5 or even compare them from a md5 file.

Thanks for that mjc - I'll give that one a go.
The MS command line one is a bit of a pain to use (because it is command line!)

I love FileAlyzer from the makers of Spybot S&D. It can be tied into the windows explorer context menu, and displays CRC-32, MD5, and SHA1 checksums among other file details.

The site appears to be down right now, but it is freeware. Dunno if redistribution of the original file is permitted or not. There is a copy handy if so.

I like the simple drag-n-drop to Graphical MD5Sum (http://www.toast442.org/md5/) or the much more elaborate WinHex (http://www.x-ways.net) which will calculate many different hashes and even down to a single byte (or single nibble for that matter).

Will try the other ones suggested but mjc's HashOnClick from BrightSparks (makers of the great SyncBack) looks like it should be very easy to use because of the shell integration.
