Switching to AMD X2 question

Sometime I'd like to switch to an AMD X2. I would need to upgrade my bios. Would I also need to re-format and re-install WIndows XP? Another things to consider? Such as power supply, etc.

No you won't need to reinstall windows. You may need a BIOS update if support for dual core was added in a later BIOS version than is on your system.

The PSU is just fine if it's the Antec TPII 550W in your signature.

Other than the possible BIOS update there shouldn't be any problems. It would be a good idea to clear the CMOS right before you boot with the new CPU in. That will avoid any potential CMOS issues with it finding a new CPU in there. If you have a bunch of custom settings you can try it without clearing first. It's up to you.
