Hi,

I'm setting up a compauter that continually loses the CMOS setting, (MB defect). Oddly enough, when booting, you have the option, 'F1' to enter CMOS set up or 'F2' to continue booting.

Now, I'm OK with just booting and using the computer the way it starts up (the date is Oct 10, 2002) but what about software? Will XP complain about the date being the same everytime it boots up? 98? 2000? What about Office?

It would be a 'Beyondary' computer (primary, secondary, etc) mainly for surfing the net and writing letters.

Sounds like a bad CMOS battery to hold the BIOS settings. The settings revert to some sort of default settings, still works and can still adjust the settings for a session?

Hi PrntRhd,

My first thought also but I changed the battery a couple of times and still the same thing. That part doesn't concern me, I just want to know if CMOS problem will cause problems running OS/software.

Possibly...if the battery isn't the culprit have you checked to see if the jumper is in place and in the correct position?
