Just looking to get some information on a motherboard that will handle the Pentium 4. Basically what I'm looking for some information on the different chipsets with motherboards that support P4's and which ones are most recommended for gaming comps. Any suggestions or informaion is much appreciated..

Hi,
Check out the reviews over at www.tomshardware.com. (http://www.tomshardware.com.)
Go for a motherboard with the i845D chipset that allows for DDR RAM to be used.

Well, Tom seems to think that a better bet would be either the newer VIA or SIS chipset. Lots of interesting reading, so enjoy.

Hello fraelorn,
Good advise from Big Blue 66 to check out Tom's, specifically:
TOM’S : INTEL GOES DDR - DO WE REALLY CARE? DEC 17, 2001
TOM’S : SPEED PROJECT: P4 OVER 3 GHz! Jan 17, 2002
However Tom is inconsistant:
In the December article he is quite critical of the Intel i845D chipset yet in the January "Speed Project" he uses a i845D chipset motherboard not the VIA or SIS chipsets '66 refers to - go figure?
Do also look at anandtech.com (and their links) for reviews and comparitive tests.

IMHO - go with DDR regardless of anything else. RAMBUS is overpriced and underachieves....and it will be a thing of the past and hard to replace in about 1.5 years [just about the time you will want to add some or need to replace some].

Hey Hobit,
Thanks for trying to help, however, you really should spend more time reading posts before you reply. I don't recall mentioning anything about those chipsets. Read my post again.

Fraelorn,
Hobit again, hope I did not confuse you. Randy_tx is right-on!

Do read reviews because you must still resolve motherboard choice.

BB66 Just so we're clear I was referring to Tom being inconsistant not you.
