Hi all, :) I hope you are having a good day. I was using 2 identical hardware tower setups and using the same removable hard drive to go from one location to another on a daily bases with windows 2000 pro without any problems, now I upgraded to xp and I get an activation warning because my system has changed hardware when I put the hard drive in the other tower. Ok anybody know how I can not have to call microsoft to activate it every day. I was thinking I can just buy another license but when I put my hard drive back in the original tower I still had to call microsoft to activate it. I know it used to be a somewhat popular pratice to swap towers using the same portable hard drive and the one license, but now I am not so sure it can still be done. Any ideas?
Thanks:)
Ummm....no, XP can't really do that any longer, because there is no such thing as a completely identical computer. XP keeps track of several hardware items and uses that to tell when you switch machines.
Probably the best you will be able to do is to clone your profile/settings onto the other machine and sync them daily.

:D
ok all I put the hard drive in the other tower and this time it recognized the hardware as being on it's list so it did not ask me to activate again, so it was only the first time that it did not like having so much hardware change. So now I owe Bill Gates an apology of what I was thinking of xp.:) http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/smile.gif
