Hi all.
:)

The last USB drive I bought(3 years ago) was a 256MB one, and cost $175.00
The one I bought today is a 1GB one, and cost $45.00

...things sure do drop in price once they are established.

PS: By "Data freedom" I mean the flexibility obtained in using a USB drive - I have not used CD-R's for ages...

I have a 128MB Kingston Data Traveller (I got it for free as a promotion at the University of Alberta), and a 256MB A-Data MyFlash.

Funny thing is, the 256MB one is a quarter of the size as the Kingston  In fact, it is so small, everything is built right into the plug (the black thing at the back is hollow)

Heck you can get a 4GB thumb drive for about $75 now if you wait for a decent deal.

Supermedia had a 2GB on a one day sale yesterday for I think it was $25. I really thought about getting a couple, but I had just ordered several things from Newegg...

I had been wanting a thumb drive for a while, but I was waiting on a certain price point. I wanted a 1 GB drive at either $25 out the door or $20 after MIR's. Every Sunday morning for the last 6-8 months I would check the weekly Best Buy, Circuit City and Office Depot sales circulars. Finally got it about a month ago at Circuit City, $19.99 after MIR's. The rebate check has already come in the mail - I love having it!

That's a very refreshing departure from the 12 week or so wait I have grown accustomed too. That's fast enough that I might start looking for MIRs again. Thanks for the tidbit.

4gig Compact Flash Cards can be got for the same sort of money and it is easy to carry a few of them around. Heck I see there are even 8gig CF cards available now! It's never ending, the increasing amounts of stuff that can be committed to memory for small beer compared to not so long ago. Huge HDDs and Fast DVDwriters are similarly affordable nowadays.

If only Microsoft would follow suit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
