I am upgrading to an Athlon 1500XP.Is this in any way anty less good a chip than the 1.7 or even 1.6XP`s?.
I ask this because its crunch time on Friday.I am taking my system into my local shop to have a new mobo and the Athlon fitted.I want to make sure I am going to have a system capable of being a gaming monster!!!.
The shop cannot get any 1600 or 1700XP chips for me at the moment, and wont be able to for about a fortnight,so do I wait or go for the 1500?.They assure me that I really wont notice much of a difference between the 1.5 and the 1.6,only a jump to the 1.8 would show any big increase in performance.
I have to say that I think i aggree with them,as the 1.5 runs at 1.33 in real terms and the 1.6 runs at a real world speed of 1.40Ghz.So surely a difference of 70Mhz is not going to be much?.
Any thoughts from you guys would help,as i have got till Friday to decide whether to wait a couple of weeks or go for the 1.5.
They price difference is around £20,but I think I may be just as well off going for the 1.5.
What do you think??.

I would wait and let them do it for the warranty. If something goes wrong just take it back and not have to ship bad one back and wait. I play around with a lot of computers but on mine I let the local shop do it for the warranty. I have had cpu fan go out, 2 cpus go out, and one motherboard, all replaced in less then 2 days at no cost. Something to think about.

RE: Firey251 Upgrading to an Athlon 1.5XP:need advice/reasurance!!!

This same question has been posted for second time on 1-20 and I believe answered? I'm new but when a particular question has been ask/answered (AKA to issue resolved)is it removed, archived ???

Honestly, you cannot physically tell the difference in performance between any of the CPUs you mentioned. At those incredibly high speeds, the human body simply cannot detect any change.

My advice is to buy the CPU that offers the best price/availability.

Cheers!

Hobit: I believe this is a double post, probably due to the server problems we were having at the time it was originally posted. Both topics have the same dat eon them. I could not close or delete the duplicate, that was a sure fire server error at the time, so I had to leave it open.

One thing I did notice, the original poster plainly stated that he was taking the computer in to have the work done on Friday, and that was almost 2 weeks ago. It's a bit late to be answering on this one, it's probably already been done...
