PC running VERY slow

HI,

Have a Athlon 3800, 1 gb ram. PC is running extremely slow, and I'm wondering if it is a virus issue. Looking in the task manager I can see that my CPU usage is 100% just from playing a song with WMP (wmplayer.exe) Other .exe programs also take up similar amounts of resource at other time.

Any ideas?

Install Process Explorer (http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html), and run it to see the breakdown of which processes are using what %CPU time.

e.g. My PC's "System Idle Process" [unused CPU capacity] is varying between 50% and 85%.

Various .exes take up huge amounts of my system resource - close to 100%.

First it could be the printer's program

If I end that process and start e.g. Windows media Player, that then uses around 100%.

I'm at a loss

Download a copy of Hijackthis (http://www.subratam.org/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=41)

1) Unzip it into it's own folder.

2) Run The program

3) Choose the option to scan and create a log

4) Post the contents of the log here for review.

One possible source is....

Also, nearly half of all the items that are running at startup are McAfee...that can be a little too much, for any system.

These three are not needed at all...
