Each night my pc wakes up for no apparent reason. It does so bc it is initiated by the tcpip. I do not have any scheduled programs to run, and I don't want this to happen. I found out that it was the tcpip by going to event viewer and system. How could I be more specific in finding out what caused it?

You mean you turn it off and it turns back on after a while? Does it do it at the same time each day? Try disabling all 'wake-up' features in the BIOS under Power Settings.

It actually looks like there is no rhyme or reason to the waking up. So when I disable this feature in the BIOS, will my regularly scheduled programs run? Or did you want me to just do that for a couple of days to see what would happen?

How are you shutting down the computer? Standby? hibernate? Shut down?

For now, check to see if there are any Wake events set in the BIOS...but disabling BIOS level Wake events shouldn't interfere with OS level scheduled tasks.

I use standby most of the day and rarely shut the pc down. The pc sleeps after 3-40 minutes, and sometimes I push the sleep button on my keyboard. I will disable the whatever I find in the bios and update with the details.
Okay- I just checked and nothing was enabled in the BIOS for the wake feature.
