I could like to know about Active X in detail.
I had come across numerous threads relating to Active X but cannot understand whether it's advantage or disadvantage of using Active X.
In a recent thread Sylvander made a note that IE use Active X where as Firefox does not.
I use both IE and Firefox, majority of times i pefer using IE, IE is like Stealth.

Active X is a program integrated into IE that allows websites to take control of your system in order to install programs and basically do whatever they want.
For instance MS updates uses Active X to install windows updates. Active X can be used by other websites to have this same level of control to core system components.

The problem is when malware uses Active-X it can install itself like stealth too. (unless you have the default security settings set to High)
Active-X made installing stuff easier for Microsoft, and the controls were thought to be safe since MS never anticipated someone could create rogue Active-X controls to do evil things (controls that were not created on the Microsoft campus or MS partner).
