I have Avast antivirus [Windows 98]. I tried to install the latest Zonealarm free firewall and it said it would not work on Windows 98. I settled for an older version. I've had zonealarm free for years, ever since getting rid of Norton. Any suggestion for another firewall that will work with my OS?

I moved your question to your own thread... Please do not add your questions to someone else's thread...

As for your question... An older version of ZA would probably work... You can also see if Kerio or an older version of it might work... Other options include Outpost and old versions of Sygate... I would check FileHippo since they tend to maintain older versions...

I agree with Budfred.
The reasoning by ZoneAlarm on non-support for 98/98SE/ME is simply the non-support of the OS's by Microsoft. I have switched to Kerio v2.1.5 on 98SE PCs with no problem to function as a monitoring program behind a hardware firewall with no problems.

Thanks for the information! There isn't a freeware firewall for Windows 98 that is still updated on a regular basis? Sorry about not creating the new thread...

Win98 is no longer supported by MS and it is considered essentially obsolete for that reason, so no company is going to invest in updating a program for it... That said, firewalls really don't generally need updating... They are literally like walls, once built they do their job... They are also only one part of computer security, so I hope you are not relying on one to give you complete protection...

No, I have other security precautions, was just used to keeping the firewall updated too...
