I got the advice on here to download the lifeguard tools from western digital to install my new WD hard disk, which didn't come with software. I am experiencing a problem, however: when I run the exe file which is supposed to make a bootable floppy, it doesn't recognize drive A! This is so upsetting, because it doesn't even directly relate to the installation! It says "controller failed". I don't hear any activity at all from the disk drive. Oddly enough, though, I can access my A drive fine from windows 98, and even from the command prompt. THe program just seems to not be able to do so. I desperately need help, as WD website says nothing about this seemingly simple problem.

<<You are attempting to create the installation floppy from within Windows NT or OS/2. When the Data Lifeguard Tools setup file goes to create the installation floppy, it tries to access the floppy drive directly. The Windows NT and OS/2 operating systems want control of all hardware and essentially prevents the installation program from creating the install floppy. You must either reboot the system to a DOS floppy diskette and then run the installation program (assuming the downloaded file is stored on a FAT partition), or download the Data Lifeguard Tools setup file on to a Windows 95/98 system and create the installation floppy on that system.>>

Got the above from Data Lifeguard website. Hope this helps.

Edit The above refers to your "More Problems" input.
