I am currently putting together a new system and I am confused on the jumper settings. I have a Mach Speed MK8-939A motherboard and here is what the manual says:

3.2 Detail Settings

JUSBV1/JUSBV2: Power source headers for USB ports
Pin 1-2 Close:
JUSBV1: +5V for USB ports at JUSB3 and JUSBLAN1.
JUSBV2: +5V for USB ports at front panel.

Pin 2-3 Close:
JUSBV1: USB ports at JUSB3 and JUSBLAN1 are powered by +5V
standby voltage.
JUSBV2: USB ports at front panel (JUSB1/JUSB2) are powered
+5V standby voltage

Note: In order to support this function "Power-On system via USB device,"
"JUSBV1/JUSBV2" jumper cap should be placed on Pin 2-3
individually.

My first thought is to use 2-3 so they are powered by standby voltage but I don't know if this is right or not.

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

My first thought is to use 2-3 so they are powered by standby voltage but I don't know if this is right or not.

I think that this would've enabled you to power on the system with a keypress from your USB keyboard. Other than that, I don't see a practical usage for this feature.

If you want to be able to power on your PC by activity from a USB mouse or keyboard close pins 2-3 with the jumper so the USB ports will have +5V standby power when the PC is turned off.

If you don't need that ability close pins 1-2 and the USB device will be powered by the +5V rail from the PSU which does not have power when the PC is turned off. Providing +5SB power to the USB ports is sometimes called legacy USB support.

If you are going to have USB devices plugged into those ports that use allot of power, leave the jumper on pins 1-2 because the +5V rail can supply more power to those devices that need it.
