My friend recently put together a new PC with parts I picked out for him that were compatible together. There are two problems though and I don't even know if they're related. The computer boots up and I hear the normal 1 beep, it passes POST. The computer hangs at Verifying DMI Pool Data, and on top of that it is also turning it self off. It seems the longer I leave the PC off the longer I can keep it on when I turn it on. Like if I go to turn it on immediately after it shut itself off, it will again shut itself off rather quickly.

I believe I know how to solve the Verifying DMI Pool Data issue, but I'm not certain why it is powering down. I checked and made sure everything is plugged in correctly and it is, I booted it from a piece of cardboard to make sure the case wasn't grounding power, but then I don't think it would turn on? Please help! This forum has never let me down before. Also it will power down in any place, it's not a specific place or time that it does it.

I just went into BIOS and noticed the CPU Temp is a crisp 104 C, and I believe we have the cause of the shut downs. Lucky for my friend I have a good supply of Artic Silver. How do I go about solving this DMI problem though after I fix his heat issue?

Rest the CMOS...pull the battery.

Then, without a hard drive, make sure it will get past that point. Then add in the hard drive...if a PATA drive, jumper it Master, if a SATA drive, double check the connection.

Everything is working perfectly. This forum never lets me down =). Thank you again and a big thank you from my friend who was pleased to hear the good news about his PC.

Err...problem =(. The Windows cd was scratched and had a problem in installation. I restarted to use a different CD and now it says NTLDR is missing ><

you need to reload windows, boot off the cd.

It is saying there is no cdrom now. It detects the HD as master still but now where it once detected the cdrom it says NONE. This CPU has no floppy, so what now? ><

Everything is working again...cleared CMOS and the CDROM reappeared, then did as suggested. Thank you again. No offense but hopefully I won't be back for awhile^^

Go out and get a new CMOS battery. It may save from more headaches. ;) Plopping a new CMOS battery is standard practice when doing a new build.

Yep. Disappearing devices between boots is often a sign of a bad CMOS battery...
