A friend has an ASUS P4VPMX board. He shut down the computer, and removed the electrical cord at the computer without shutting off the PSU switch. After using the cord on another computer, he plugged it back in and the computer will no longer start. The computer was working well before the shutdown, with no grinding fans, etc. I have tried 2 other PSU's, a different cord, and a different electrical outlet, to no avail. I press the case power switch, but nothing happens. When I shut off the power at the PSU switch, the green motherboard standby LED powers off after about 5 seconds. At that time the 2 case fans rotate approx 1/8 turn, but the CPU fan stands still. I have removed the only PCI card which is an unused modem. Any ideas?

Try removing the CMOS battery and resetting the CMOS. Depending on the age of the system, corrupt CMOS data can prevent the system from successfully POST'ing. Beyond that, you'll have to start at the beginning with a barebones boot.

I'm bringing a fresh battery today. But as far as the fresh boot, the computer is presently DOA. Absolutely nothing happens when the power switch is pressed.

Yes, but have you tried a barebones boot? If it doesn't do anything with a barebones boot, then one of the core components is bad.

Bad MoBo. Installed Biostar with the original chip, etc., the machine booted right up. Thank you for your help.
