Is there a proper way of removing a heatsink which is stuck to the processor without damaging it?
After its been removed whats the best way to remove the old thermal paste?

rasell....
Things being stuck together like this makes me feel like there must have been a Thermal Pad on the bottom of the heatsink, rather than thermal paste.
Is the CPU and HS/F still in the case?
Things should come apart (seperate) when everything is warmed up good. Try running the system for awile, power down and disconnect power. See if these units will seperate.
The best method of cleaning up is with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol and Q-tips. A thermal pad can be removed with a fingernail.
Luck.
