Hi, this is my first post in these forums.

Anyways, I recently bought and installed Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 for my sister. I installed it on my mothers computer, and it refuses to work. When I try to launch the game, it says the her video card does not meet minimum system requirements. It works fine on my computer, and I have the exact same specs with the exception of an ATI Radeon 9550.

She has not upgraded anything, the computer was bought within the year. I checked the specs, and it says there is 129 megs of RAM. ( The box said 512 megs ) Minimum for the game is 128. I thought that all of that extra RAM and the 2.0 Ghz processor would compensate for the lack of a decent video card.

Any help is greatly appreciated,
-Kin

I thought that all of that extra RAM and the 2.0 Ghz processor would compensate for the lack of a decent video card.No no no! Not at all!

There are many functions that a dedicated DX9-compliant vid card can do that onboard video cannot. Even the latest onboard video versions are much slower than a dedicated vid card. It's not a factor of compensation, it's a factor of ability! It's like comparing a Lamborghini to an old freight plane. Even though the Lamborghini is a finer piece of engineering, it still can't fly like the old freight plane!

I can't say for certain why that game won't work on your mom's PC without more details, but it sounds like she has a much older chipset and thus an older onboard video version that can't handle the graphics. Which is understandable considering the game requires hardware T&L at the very least.
