I have a HP Pavilion 230N that the CPU Fan became very noisy. I replaced the fan and heat sink with a thermal take TR2-M3 that was for an AMD Athlon XP up to 3400+.
When trying to restart the computer it loses video (No Input to monitor) and screen says windows failed to start properly which may be due to a recent hardware change. Tried several times. Sometimes it would load completely but eventually restart after several minutes.
Reinstalled original Fan And Heat Sink and still have same problem. Am at a loss here, not sure what I did because things worked fine before I replaced the fan other then it being very noisy.
Computer Specs Are:
AMD Athlon XP 2800+
512 MB DDR SDRAM
120 GB Hard Drive
Nvidia Gefrorce 4MX Garphics With 64 MB DDR Shared Video Memory
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Richie
Make sure all components(specifically the CPU and video card) are fully seated, and all connections are secure. It's possible that something was loosened when you installed the new CPU cooler.
If no luck, then check the CPU's for bent pins.
If they're ok, then either something may have received a static shock, or the MB was damaged when the cooler was replaced.

Here are screen shots of error codes. Have checked all connections and reseated CPU and all connectors and boards. I uploaded sreenshots to another forum, looks just like this only it allows larger uploads. Check it out and let me know if you get a chance. Thanks for your help

Try booting from a Knoppix Linux Live CD (http://www.knoppix.org/) [rather than the HDD] and see what happens. :)
See if reseating the RAM helps.
If not, then either the RAM or MB may be bad.

"windows failed to start properly which may be due to a recent hardware change"
When I [only once] got this error at startup at the point where the BIOS tries to hand over to Windows...
I guessed right that it was due to corruption of the MBR.
Following that assumption I used the "Recover MBR" program on the EBCD.
That wrote [in a blink] a new generic MBR to the HDD and fixed the problem.
I won't say that this is the cause of your problem, but if you can boot Knoppix ok, then you know there's nothing wrong with your hardware [excluding perhaps the HDD].
So then you focus on the HDD, and/or Windows.
"When trying to restart the computer it loses video (No Input to monitor) and screen says windows failed to start properly"
Something wrong with Windows I'd say.
Perhaps the video driver, or the video system configuration settings.
But how come it displays an error when you say it loses video?
Go back to a good restore point or...
XP's No-Reformat, Nondestructive Total-Rebuild Option. (http://www.informationweek.com/windows/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=189400897) [I'm assuming you're running WinXP]

I did a complete restore and nothing changed still same thing. I get the error message after it reboots sometimes but not when it loses video until reboot.
Is it possible something got a static shock when i was working inside? If so would it be the CPU or MOBO? Thanks for all your help

Is there a reason you aren't trying Knoppix?
"I did a complete restore"
What does that mean?
A restore of an image backup?
A fresh new installation after a reformat?
Going back to a restore point?
A repair reinstall?
