CDRW drive won't open

hi, having trouble with my compaq 5003US ... the cdrw drive won't open.
the light doesn't light up either. any ideas on what i can do to troubleshoot this? I have windows xp Thank you.

Make sure the drive's cables are securely connected.
If they're ok, then connect a different power lead to it.
If no luck, then install a different known working IDE cable for it.
If still no good, then see if the same problem happens on another system. If so, then the drive is toast.

thanks so much....bought a new cdrw/dvd drive and all is good.:)
the old cdrw drive was toast. :eek:
