At my job there is a firewall set up that forbids me to connect from home via remote desktop connection to my PC at work. Also I am unable to connect to a ftp server, which I set up at my work computer.

Is there any way to overcome that so that I wil be able to connect to this PC ?

Think about what you're asking here. If you knowingly violate the terms of your employer, they can terminate you on the spot. I've worked for a lot of IT companies with tons of bandwidth, and they never cared as long as employees weren't hosting files using p2p apps.

Once a company determines the need to restrict net use by employees, and goes to the trouble of actually implementing a policy, they're serious. It's absolutely trivial for the network admin to see the bandwidth being used, and they'll know exactly who's doing it just as easily.

That's just for using the bandwidth without permission. If you were to login to your work machine from home against your employer's express wishes, you're most likely committing an actual crime. Your employer doesn't have to press criminal charges and probably wouldn't, but they would very likely fire you straight away.

Many employers consider bandwidth theft just as serious as stealing physical company property. Most likely they'd make an example of you to show how serious they are about this policy. Quit thinking about it!

If you have legitimate reasons to tap into the work computer, contact your IT department and ask them how it can be done... I can gain limited access to my work network at home through protocals they set up, although if I bring my laptop home I can gain full access... All of this is approved by IT...

The best bet is to ask. You might be able to get VPN access or something like that.

What wasn't mentioned is that doing things they way you are trying to also opens up a way for any infections on your computer to be transfered to work. It is a really bad idea to try and go around IT policies that are setup for whatever reason. If they don't allow remote access then just forget it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I went to speak to the network admin (cloase friend) and he gave me access.
So this story has a happy ending
