Hi,

Since i got my pc, it has had a few problems with mice. The first mouse it came with i broke cause it was so anoying, when i got the second mouse, i though the problem would go away, but no, its still there. I got my third mouse today and its just the same as the first two.

The problem is that for no reason it will just shoot of in one direction (normaly to a corner of my screen). After it does that, i can move my mouse like normal, but most of the time, it will happen say 20 seconds later, and its always stubben, so i will like move my mouse to click on some thing, and it will move slowly and try to 'resist' what im doing. Its most obvious when im playing counter strike source, cause my view will start spinning realy fast and i have to move my mouse in the oppersit direction to get it to stop...

Now like i said, it has always happened with all three of my mice, so it cant be a problem there, so could it be some thing in my pc thats doing it?

Any help/advice would be great.

Thanks,
Dave

What brand of mice have you been trying?

I bought some el-cheapo dollar bin mice (A4 Tech brand) and of the three that I bought, two of them do that. They will randomly move by themselves, shoot down, etc. The third works as well as any other optical mouse.

Just a note, on my computer the cheap mice have the problem (and on every other computer I tested) but my trusty Microsoft USB Optical Mouse has absolutely no problems.

It is not the mouse causing the movement to the corner if more than one mouse does it.
There are "prank" programs that will do just that, there are infections that may do this also.
I would suggest downloading HiJackThis from Budfred's signature, unzip it into a new folder on the HDD, scan the PC and post the complete log (in sections if too large) for the experts to review. Wait until advised to remove any item.

The first mouse it came with i broke cause it was so anoying,
Sounds to me like you are going temper-mental over temperamental mice!

I had that same thing happen a loong time ago, tried other mice (all rollerball) but the problem persisted. Reloaded my os and all was well. I think trying to fix the problem as you are doing now is a better choice however.

I just wanted to tease you about your 'temperament' ;)

Lol, maybe i did go a bit over the top with my first mouse, it would start spinning and i wouldnt beable to get it to stop without hitting it, so, i went a bit over the top and hit it to hard .. and it broke the lazer ^^

The Mousepad that I use has some reflective qualities and causes my mouse (cursor) to wander. That is if I use the pad in a landscape position.

I just bought a P4S800D-X and there is no response on the mouse port at all. I've used 2 known-good mice, and can't get any data on the mouse port at all. I'm sending it in for a replacement.

I'm told that quite a few of these boards turned out to be defective. You may need to send it back. It's certainly not the mice.

Good luck. Mike
