Hi all, I recently bought all the parts that i needed to buld a pc from tiger direct heres what i got. asus a8n sli delux, amd athlon 64 ,4000mhz,
1024 ddr, 300 gb maxtor sata hard drive, geforce 7900 gt, and low and behold the problem device, the nd-6330a dvd burner cd burner, also read.
When i hook the burner up to my motherboard it wont turn on when i power on my pc. I unplugged the data ribbon cable from my dvd burner drive and it starts fine. it doesnt make any sense to me. somehow i guess the data ribbon is stopping the ower from getting to the dvd/cd drive. I only have this one drive to if that helps. All this stuff is brand new out of the package.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and save me from going to a pc shop.
Thanks in advance.

Make sure the drive is jumpered properly.

Try a different cable.

Try the drive in a different machine...if the behavior is the same in a different machine, return the drive.

If only one, do you have a spare harddrive you could try... You'll still boot from the sata, but I'm wondering if you can access and perhaps transfer files...

If not, I'm thinking that the controller may be defective...

You might want to take a look in DEVICE MANAGER and see if the IDE controller has a question mark or exclamation next to it. If not, I would suggest going into SAFEMODE>Device Manager> and highlight the controller and click to REMOVE... Windows will either immediately locate the new hardware, or you can reboot and let Windows locate and install the drivers...see if that brings any joy
