I currently have an Athlon 1.2ghz with a TNT2 AGP card.
What I need to be able to do is to capture bits and pieces of video from my VCR, save the video as mpeg2 (which I am guessing I can convert to divx later on) and then edit those videos so that I can take 2 or 3 of them and put them into one file. The captured video needs to be of good quality .. as close to the VHS originals as possible.
Problem is, I'm not sure whether to go with one of those $50-100 video capture cards or get something like a Radeon All In Wonder? I've seen cards that want to turn my computer into a Tivo, but I don't need all of that.
I realize something like an ATI card might be a step up from the card I have now, but my TNT2 currently does everything I need it to do (I'm not a gamer) and would lilke to get one of the addon cards to save money, so long as I don't sacrifice quality by doing it that way.
And my budget for this is about $200 http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

worknman,

Whew...I'll pass on to you what I've been able to gather from my All-in-Wonder 128 Pro. I used it to capture a TV snippet that I wanted the other day...saved as Mpeg2. Playback was awesome...as good as the original!

However, I need to edit what I've captured...a bit too long...and haven't found any editing capabilities, if there are any, that I can perform with what was given me with the ATI.

You mentioned VHS tapes...if these are copyguarded copyrighted originals...the software apparently will not allow you to do so.
