sound control

running XP home edition. Don't know what caused the problem but now I can't keep the volume control to stay in the taskbar. I can open the sound controls and click on the add volume control to taskbar button to invoke it but when I reboot it disappears again. Reinstalled sndvol32.exe so that isn't the cuase. Ran msconfig and systray isn't show so I tried to run it out of the startup group to no effect. Now at a loss for other things to try.

Also, I would recommend reinstalling the sound card drivers and, if there's an actual sound card program removing and reinstalling also (Add/Remove programs)
