Further to a previous thread I made concerning my complete mess-up of IE7/firewalls and my non-access to secure sites, I thought I'd solved the problem.

I am now running back on IE6 with a fully functioning firewall and all is good.

Well, it was until last night. I go to turn the PC on and all of a sudden, without any warning, I can't access secure sites again!!

I did the usual searches and went for trying out this option:

Copy the contents of the following quote box into Notepad:

cd\windows\system32
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
pause

Save it to your desktop as regdll.bat

Now <double-click> the regdll.bat file. A DOS window will open as these DLL's are being registered.

The "initpki.dll" registration may take a few minutes to complete, so be patient.

When these commands are complete, you'll get this message:

Press any key to continue . . .

Close the DOS window (and all other programs/windows) and restart your machine.

...which I found on another pc-help forum.

This worked, and now I'm back onto the secure sites once again.

But my question is this...WHY does this keep happening? If it's going to happen again I need to know how to prevent it as it will be a pain in the **** to have to keep re-registering these .dll's.

I have anti-virus, anti-malware and anti-spyware and have done full system scans and nothing appears to show-up.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance.

If you keep losing access to secure sites, it could be that your list of trusted certificate providers is messed up.
I haven't got an immediate fix for you - I'm just browsing the site quickly at the minute, but I would guess that when you try to access a secure site, the browser looks at the certificate that is issued as part of the SSL transation, and says ' I haven't got a clue who you are, so I don't trust you.'

Do a search on trusted certificates and see if that throws anything up. I'll get back to you later if I can.

I get what you're saying deddard, and thanks for the advice, but I don't think this applies to me here as I have already previously accessed THE SAME site and then can't get in again the next day.

Surely if I've been there once already then it wouldn't have a problem verifying the integrity of the site?!
