I had Windows Media Player 10 and every song, every avi, every type of video clip I had played perfectly, no problems playing anything.

So I decided to try out WMP11 since the Final Version was released. So I install it and everything seems to be going fine but when I tried to play an avi, it wouldn't play it, the sound was there but no picture. So I decided to get rid of it and go back to 10.

This is where the problems started. I didn't realise that WMP11 was listed in Add/Remove programs as 9 and 10 weren't so I figured a System Restore would be the best option.

I restored to a point a few days ago before I installed 11. I restarted, and tried to play a song to make sure it was back to 10. It was, that was great. But then I went to try an avi and now it didn't work on 10 either (which it had worked before on 10).

So I found an Audio Codec Package for WMP (an official M$ one), and ran it. It ran, and stopped, so stupidly I ran it again. The first run then popped up with something else, and then the second run did the same. Now since that time WMP has ceased to exist on my system. The icon is there, but it just won't open. I can't play any songs at all. I can't even open Media Player. I have been trying all day to get it to work. I tried a system restore again, but it didn't help. I have tried removing WMP and re-installing 10 but it still won't work.

At this stage I am out of ideas.

Can anyone offer some suggestions?

Thanks

She has decided that she wants to do a fresh install of windows to make sure she has everything fixed and a fresh start.I'm going to do it for her and I was just wondering has anyone here got any experience with installing windows on a Dell laptop? Will it pick up all the hardware that it needs to function?I have no problems getting graphic drivers, sound, modem etc but the touch pad will work won't it?
