My winxp home usually boots fine but at other times it won't get past the splash screen. I don't get any error messages, the status bar on the splash just continues and continues but it won't finish booting. I've tried using the repair cd with the following commands.
* C: CD ..
* C: ATTRIB –H C:\boot.ini
* C:ATTRIB –S C:\boot.ini
* C:ATRIB –R C:\boot.ini
* C: del boot.ini
* C: BOOTCFG /Rebuild
* C: CHKDSK /R /F
* C: FIXBOOT
It worked better for a few days after that and I thought it was fixed but the same thing is starting to occur again. If anyone knows of a possible solution, I'd appreciate your help.

Perhaps it might be helpful to add..... this machine didn't have any trouble booting for a few years. Then, I installed a copy of Linux (Ubuntu) and ran that for about a month or so without any problems booting. I got rid of Linux and partitioned the drive with partition magic and formatted the drive. Then reinstalled winxp. It was not long after that the problems started.
