CPU upgrade how to identify slot/pins...

This is a Dell Dimension XPS-T500. It is an Intel built for Dell MoBo. I know from a previous question it can take an 850. But an 850 what? Pentium or AMD, is it slot 1, how do I tell? I appreciate the input! Dell just wants to sell me another computer......

If it is an Intel motherboard then AMD is right out....slot/socket is fairly easy to tell...if the processor is standing on edge like a video card then it is a slot processor (slot1 in this case), lying flat...socket.
