Hello!

I would like to upgrade my computer but only intend to replace components that needs to be replaced. However, being the computer idiot that I am, I am not sure which component needs to be replaced and which doesn't.

Please help me take a look.

- Processor
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ 1.67 GHz

- RAM
Kingston KVR333X64C25 512 MB

- HDD
1. Hitachi Deskstar: HDS720808PLAT20 82.3GB
2. Segate ST320413A 20GB

- Graphics Card
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX400

- CR-ROM drives
1. ATAPI CD-RW 48X24
2. SONY CD-ROM CDU611

- Motherboard
MSI KM2M COMBO-L

http://www.extrememhz.com/KM2MCL-p1.shtml

- Operating System
Microsoft XP Home Edition
Version 2002 Service Pack 2

I can't and do not know how to find the specifications for my power supply unit.

My computer is used for school work and stuff like reports etc etc. But I used it to play games most of the time.

Its pretty laggy when I play games, especially the loading time.

Overall I feel that my computer is pretty laggy as compared to my friend's.

Hence, do enlighten me as to what should I replace.

THANKS!

You're going to need a new motherboard, CPU, RAM, video card, PSU, probably a case... in fact, you might be better off just building a whole new computer. What is your budget?

Oh issit really that bad? Well if thats the case then I doubt I will upgrade it for the time being cause I am too cash-strapped to get a brand new computer.

THANKS azzey!

Depending on your usage just adding nother 512MB of RAM might hold you over.

Are you running low on HD space? If not I would just say keep the drives you have.

Other than that it doesn't really pay to do upgrades. Just get along for a while longer until you can put together a new system. You can get a decent system together pretty cheap. I just put someting together for like $400, and it is a decent setup. Not top of the line or state of the art, but good enough.
