Hi, I was wondering if anyone has this type of printer and use it in a network atmosphere? If it is, is the printer connected to a windows machine and shared with a fedora machine? If anyone has this type of setup please either reply in this thread or PM me .
TIA
Well it is a lower end model without built in network support. That makes things more difficult. You could connect it to one PC and use that as a server to share the printer (I don't think any of the other functions work over the network). The only problem with this is that computer will always need to be on in order to be able to print from another computer.
Depending on your Linux knowlede you could connect it to any Linux machine and share it out using CUPS and Samba. It all depends on what you want to do. I generally say that if your number one need is a networked printer buy one with built in support, you will be glad later on.
Another option is a small print server device. This will conenct to the printer via USB and the network via CAT 5. The print server will then queue all jobs and give them to the printer. You have options, it just depends on your needs and budget.

So, are you trying to tell me if I have it attached to my XP machine I won't be able to set it up as a network printer for my fedora core 5 machine as well. I am only looking the the FC% machine to print only. Please let me know. thank you for the help.
Sharing the printer shouldn't be a problem. That is a multi-function device though, I believe anyway. For those the only part that will work over the network is the printer. The only caveat will be that in order to print from the Fedora PC the XP PC will need to be running.
All that is required is to share the printer in XP. Then install Samba and CUPS on the Fedora machine. Map the printer as a network printer using CUPS and you are done.

Eric, I am a newbie to fedora and Linux all together. I was hoping you could tell me when you would be online in the forum and might be able to help me. I would really appreciate it. Send me a PM when you have some time.
thanks
