This is not a PC question, but I don't know anywhere else to find better all-around advice. At my office I send/receive only about 2 or 3 faxes a month and some months none at all. Yet I am paying the local phone company $20 a month service fee for my fax line. I have read about the e-fax services that converts incoming faxes to e-mail and sends them electronically. For outgoing faxes I know there is software available that will do this. It's built into Windows XP, I believe.

Here's the kicker: I already have my fax number printed on hundreds of my business cards and brochures. Is there an e-fax service that will allow me to keep my current fax number?

Your present fax line is an analog line from the phone company's switches, and the number goes with that line. You pay the phone company per minute of local use and long distance rates apply.

There is software that can convert incoming faxes to emails which saves paper but uses the same phone line.
There is software that can send files directly from the PC to other fax machines which saves paper on your end, but they use that same analog fax line.
There are devices that allow you to send and receive faxes using your network/Internet connection (iFax) where the other party has the same gear, which makes the connection cheaper, since you are using the already existing ISP connection instead of a pay per minute line.

There are services that can outsource your fax but usually requires using their phone number instead of the one you use at the present time.
