Hi All,
Have clean installed windows 2000 pro over 98se and at startup I get a message, "select the operating system to open, Windows 2000
Windows
The selected one will start in 30 seconds.[counting down]"
Windows 2000 is highlighted at the start and this is started by pushing "enter".
Pushing enter on windows gives a blank blue sceen.
Windows 2000 is the only operating system on this machine.
How can I set it that it just boots straight from 2000 without this step.
Thanks for any help,
Wombil

Hi,

It's because you have installed win2000 over win98 and win98 is no longer bootable.

Does Win2000 boots o.k.? If yes, just simply go to the System Properties in the Config Panel, then "Start up and Recovery" and you will find a box with the countdown (in seconds), put a "0" in the box and restart...This will bypass the boot loader screen.

You can also manually edit the boot.ini file located in c:\ by replacing the "30" seconds by "0" seconds.

Hope this help...:)

If there is only one entry under [operating systems] and this matches the setting under [boot loader] then, no matter what the timeout is, the boot.ini menu will not be displayed during boot-up. There was presumably a second line under [operating systems] referencing C:\ so removal of that second line would also have stopped the boot menu from appeaing.
