Burn CD or DVD in win2k slow,can someone tell me why?

i need some guide, burn CD and in win 2k take 2x longer than in win XP, DVD movie even worst, copy 1 DVD movie file take up to 2-3 hours, is this common?, why win xp can do it so fast but 2k cannot?
my friends also having this problem, anything i can do to overcome this problem?

i'm using both XP and 2k in my pc. install in different partition.
