I have Win98SE and am interested in taking up WinXP - Home Edition.

I have apps like Office 97, UltraEdit and many other apps that were designed for Win98se which I use on a regular basis. Will WinXP provide me with suitable backward compatability with these programs?? or is it better to use Win2K for this kind of issue???

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

I believe I heard that Office 97 would not work with XP. The best bet might be to setup a dual boot.

actually you would probably be better with office 97 than office xp from what I have heard.

at least there were some upgrading to office xp horror stories....

office 2000 works fine.

as for the other I never heard of it, most things work in XP- some require some 'tweaking' or updates.

I do agree with the "dual boot" advice though!

I recently installed Office 97 on XP and it seems to be running OK but i havent been using it extensively. Ive found XP good for most things, although, like sea says, some things need patches etc.
