I am using XP Pro SP2. when I boot it, it gets to the windows logo with the blue dashes moving from left to right. They move normally for about 10 seconds and then the move VERY slowly for around 5 to 10 minutes until it finally boots up.I took the machine to another location and it booted normally( around 30 seconds). I then took it to still another location and it booted in 30 seconds again. It only boots slowly in the original location. I have tried booting it without the mouse and keyboard and it still take at least 5 minutes to boot. Could it be the monitor or the cables connecting the monitor. Or maybe the electrical outlet? Those are the only 2 thing that are different from the slow booting house and the normal booting houses. thanks for the help.

Unless the hardware is identical then the different location can have no relevance. I have seen both bad keyboards and bad mice screw up systems - and to be even more obsure those bits of hardware were fine on another PC.

That is why I removed the keyboard and mouse before I booted it, but it still took a very long time ( Almost 10 minutes) to boot. Could it be a problem with the monitor or the cables that run from the monitor to the tower? They are the only different hardware used from the other locations.

My own finger of suspicion would be the monitor or its connection since it seems to be the last piece of hardware attached that you havent yet attempted or been able to exclude.

Beg/borrow a replacement to try at home??
