Hi everyone,

I am networking my son's and my computers together with a switch. He is running Windows XP Professional and I am running Windows XP Home. We both are showing that we are connected to the LAN at 100 Mbps. We are not sharing internet (we have a dial-up connection and were told that we cannot share the internet with this switch, which makes no sense to me as we had done lots of research which indicated we could, but I digress).

I can access his files, but his computer cannot access mine, even if I share the folder. Any idea why? I have also elected to share my printer, and he cannot access it at all from his computer. I'm confused. I was told this was easy, but it's really not.

Quasi, who is becoming discouraged

Just to be sure, you can try disabling the firewall on YOUR system to see if he can get through. If you still can't then try the following:

Go to "Start", "Control Panel" and look for the "Windows firewall" Icon which should be on the bottom row. Open it up and select "Exceptions". Make sure "File and Printer sharing" IS checked. (Should be by default I believe)

Please let us know if the situation was resolved or not. Good luck.

Ok yeah. The situation is resolved now. I went through lots and lots of different things, and in the end, it was pretty much down to the IP addresses.

Thanks Puter Padawan!
