The current computer in use is a Compac Presario 5400US. The CPU is running at 60C 98% of the time. Have seen it at 62C. The mobo is running at 38C up to 40C.

Is this normal and if it is where can I find some specs as to what temps would be bad.

It has been a while since I have cleaned the inside but this usally does not change much as to the temps.

The cramped quarters of OEM machines, coupled with the fact that most users don't like loud computers, means that most of them run right on the line of acceptable temps. They're often a good 15-20C below the max rated temp, but the max rated temp is the point at which the CPU core melts!!

Difficult to say how "bad" the situation is without knowing the CPU in question, though. What CPU is it? What core revision?

If you really want to get those temps down, reinstall the CPU's HSF unit using AS 5 and add a case fan to that thing. Airflow is the key.

The core is
Intel Celeron - S, 1200 MHz
Tualatin, A80530
And yes I agree "airflow is the key"

Your CPU temperature is the main problem. The motherboard temperature isn't too bad, definitely nothing to worry about.

Your going to have to buy a new heatsink, I recommend Zalman, but there are many others that are cheaper that will be fine. www.newegg.com is a good website to buy heatsinks.

OMFG!!!!

60C for a Tualatin CPU!? Holy $hit!!! That's HOT!!!

There's definitely a problem there! I've never seen a Tualatin go above 50C before - and that was on a full load! Granted the max die temp is probably around 90C, but that temp is still waaaaay too high. Fix the CPU cooling situation immediately!

47C here right now, in the summer it tends to goto 55C. It very occasionally gets to 60C in summer and it works absolutely fine. However if it goes above 60C my computer crashes lol... tme for a cool down.

47CPU and 37 System temp on mine.

What I just want to know is, what are we having for supper?

It's obvious who's cooking

Truthfully, a 1200mhz machine is ripe for a good dust bunny 'eradicating' and possibly a reseat of the CPU's heatsink as well. Basically put that thing up on a lift, tune it up, grease the rear end good and then take it for a test spin around the block.. Keep it on all 4 wheels though..

could it be that this pc has been moved once to often and the heatsink is no longer having good contact with the cpu??? time to get yourself a tube of thermal paste i think!!!!
