CD-ROM not detected

I just bought a refurbished Dell laptop. The CDROM tray opens, the device manager states the CDROM is working properly, however, wehn I put a CD into the CDROM the computer does not read it. Even when I use the command line to access the d: I get a "No Device Dectected"

Try removing and reseating the drive. Making sure that if there is a lock for it that the lock is engaged.

If that doesn't work, then the drive is probably toast and needs to be replaced.
