Well since it's posted here, I might as well answer...

The performance of the two chips is basically identical at their rated speeds...so it really comes down to price.

The price of the P4 ($534) is almost $300 more than the Athlon ($245) though...motherboards will probably cost about the same.

512mb (2*256) of Mushkin RAM for the P4 is $300 and 512mb (2*256) of Mushkin for the Athlon is $200.

If you're going to overclock the system, you will probably do better with the P4 in performance overall (the P4 can approach 3Ghz), but it may come at the price of stability since the only way to OC the P4 is by changing the bus speed...

In any event, a P4 system is going to cost about $400 more than the AthlonXP for the same performance...

Congratulations! You'll like it...I have an XP1600 (overclocked a little http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif ) and it is FAST. If you're using Windows XP, make sure you get at least 256mb of RAM so you don't hold the system back...
