I have a zida tomato series T810B-SE motherboard.it has dual socket 370 and slot1 processor support.the manual says that it supports PII PIII and celeron processors starting from 250 mhz to 500 mhz and abouve. I have been using the motherboard with a 500mhz celeron processor and it runs fine since last say 2 years.the system bus is both 66 and 100 mhz.I want to know whether I can upgrade my cpu to 1ghz without changing the motherboard.the product manual dosent tell me the maximum speed supported it says that speeds above 500mhz is supported.also I want to know is there a way to know whether the cpu speed will be compatible with the current motherboard.PIII 1 ghz processor comes with a bus of 100 mhz.my motherboard supports 100 mhz bus.so can I upgrade looking and this criteria? please help..

If the board supprts the voltages for the Coppermine processors and there is a BIOS update so the processor will be rcognized you should be able to do it.

As nearly as I can tell it will suppport any chip that will work with the Intel 810 chipset. Intel shows only Celeron's with the 810 chipset, and have them up to 1.3Ghz. As far as I can tell the P3 doesn't use the 810 chipset, and wouldn't work. The only real advantage of moving to a P3 would be the 133 FSB, which your board wouldn't handle anyway. I read the boards manual online and it seemed to be a general manula for different boards, so the P3 might have been for a different board. If you want to upgrade go for a faster Celeron.

I had visited the intel website.at some places they say that their PIII processor supports I810 chipset and some places it has not been mentioned at all.this is creating confusion for me.so ultimately if I upgrade will I have to go for a celeron? my motherboard bus supports 100 mhz bus processors.I'm really confused about this bus thing and how to decide if my processor will ultimately be supported by my motherboard please advice.thanx.

If you want to be sure check with the board manufacturer, they should be able to tell you if the P3 would work. The way I see it though, the P3's use a 133 bus speed that your board won't accept, so why spend the extra money? If you get a 1.3Ghz Celeron, with the 810 chipset, it should work without a problem, and be cheaper as well.

The fact the the board can only support bus speeds up to 100Mhz means it is limited to this bus speed, and as the Celerons use this you can get the most for your money.

Thank you for the information.so the bus speed is one of the key factors? I found out the prices in my currency the celeron happens to be a lot cheaper.thanx for yr help!
