AVG Grisoft Anti-Virus no longer free?

Good morning:

Firstly, I hope I am posting this message in the correct area. I obtained a new desktop the early part of this year and have been using AVG Grisoft ever since. I received a email from Grisoft stating that come Jan. 2007, the program will no longer be free:confused: . Can someone verify, and if this is correct, please recommend a another good anti virus program?

I believe they are still offering a free version... However, if they are not, there are several alternatives including Avast and AntiVir....

Are you still on version 7.1?
If so the notice you got is only informing you that after January that version will no longer be supported.(Many say it will get updates for a while after that)
The new AVG Free version 7.5 is available for download now and will continue on after the 7.1 version is gone.Version 7.5 can be found on Grisoft's site now.

The last I heard, the current version will be replaced and no longer valid come January...but I haven't heard anything about there not being a free version of the new one.

Edit: Sheesh...we've got some 'speedy' people today.

And, in the past the definitions were available, but no 'engine' updates...for a period of time after support expired.

I have already down loaded v7.5 it comes with added extras also. AVG anti-spy.
