First, you need to have good power running to the modem or resets will be required. Do you have the modem plugged into a UPS/surge protector?

no ups--only power bar with surge protector. i'll have to look into that. but it seems like it may be another problem. the internet connection just died on me while i was using the computer--i had to unplug then reconnect the power for my router in order to get things running again. i didn't notice the power outtage.

There are issues where the signal to noise ratio has to be within specs or the modem drops sync, and others that can cause the dropped connection.

No, it is a splitter issue or something the cable co has to address.

How old is your router? Have you updated the firmware? Is it well ventilated?

Failing routers can over-heat and require a hard reset to work.....

My first take would also be signal strength... If I remember correctly, your cable provider can have you open a page on the net and monitor signal strength. Or, they can also make a housecall and run their equipment on the line and make sure your signal is up to par...

I speak this from personal experience. There was a line problem out on the pole with mine that also enhanced my cable TV picture quality...t'was a nice find to say the least.
