I should start out by saying that the internet works at the university (we use Resnet), and that when I bring it back home and put in my cable, it doesn't work.

Windows reports that my laptop is connected to the internet, it's just that any attempt to go on any webpage or to ping even the router results in a timeout.

It's not that my router isn't accepting pings, I ping the LAN (not WAN) address (192.168.1.1) and I get no response.

I attached the result of an ipconfig /all:

In addition, in an attempt to repair the connection via windows results in a message "WIndows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing your IP address.

And the 'packets received' in the tcp/ip window are abnormally small.

If anyone has any insight into this issue, please help. No internet on my laptop is driving me crazy. Thanks.

I would probably leave the main connection alone and rename it "School" and then try the Connection Wizard to setup a secondary connection called "Home"...there is probably at least one item in the current connection that your home setup doesn't like and troubleshooting it or switching back and forth every time you go home will tend to be a bit of a bother.

How exactly do I set up a secondary connection using the Connection wizard? I tried creating a new connection, and after the process, I still have only two types of connections: the wireless and the local area connection (or if I renamed it, then it would be school and the wireless). There is no third connection.

But I agree that there is something that my home network doesn't like about the connection. It worked just fine at home over the summer before I brought the laptop to school and installed Resnet on it. However, my school's IT department assures that it doesn't have anything to do with it.

Just in case... make sure you don't have a proxy setup. If you're using Internet Explore, go into "Tools", "Internet Options" and then choose the "Connection" tab. From there, look at the bottom and choose "Lan Settings". When that opens make sure there isn't a number entered into the bottom window. If there IS then just uncheck that box to NOT use the Proxy.

There is a possibility I'm wrong of course but perhaps your school network uses a proxy server? Let us know if the situation was resolved and what you did to fix it if you did. Take care.
