I just purchased a p4 1.7g computer. I powered it up and it will not post. I cannot find a case speaker connected to the motherboard. I tried all the motherboard manufacturers troubleshooting tecniques to find the problem of why it will not boot up. Since it does not have a case speaker I cannot hear a beep pattern to isolate the problem. Will any case speaker work or do I have to go to the board maker to purchase the proper one?

As far as I know any case speaker should do.

FIrst thing to check when a newly built computer won't boot is a ground problem or short. Pull it and try it on a non-conductive tabletop. Use motherboard, CPU, RAM, video card and keyboard, nothing else. Speaker might be a good idea...if you get video at this point, and it looks for bootup files, get some cardboard washers from a computer shop and put them between the metal standoffs and the motherboard, and sometimes under the screws helps too. Sometimes the circuits are too close to the screwholes and the screw heads create a direct short, then you get no boot.
