Hello All,
First off, I stumbled upon this site but I'd like to thank all of you for sharing your knowledge. I've enjoyed browsing the site.
I'm currently running a pc built a number of years ago (2000 I believe). AMD Athlon XP1700+, 1 Gig Ram, AGP NVIDIA GeForce Fx 5700, Gigabyte GA-7VTXE+. To make a long story short I'm beginning to experience enough problems to replace the system.
I prefer to keep my price low as possible but I do want a system that can grow with me. Initially I plan to purchase a power supply, case, hard drive, memory, and motherboard. I'd prefer onboard gigabit ethernet and if realistic quality onboard sound (5.1 or better). What I'd like to accomplish is a computer able to run World of Warcraft well. Generally, I'll run a voice over IP client (Ventrilo), tabbed web browser, and if feasible streamed or locally stored music (not a big loss). I'd appreciate any advice concerning construction of the system. How great of an impact is the hard drive RPM have on performance? How large should the hard drive cache be? I currently own Windows 2000 & XP Pro64. I'd love to know specific hardware you'd recommend in as much detail as you're willing to provide. If you have suggestions for the initial build and for a build 6 months down the road that would be wonderful. I've had good luck with AMD but am open to suggestions. I appreciate your assistance.
Mike
