As I mention in another (unanswered) post, I'm taking the plunge for an LCD monitor due to the fact that my old CRT is killing my eyes. I'm looking at inexpensive 15 in. monitors at this time; I plan to get a 17" or greater when the prices come down (hopefully in a year or so.) Anyway, I went to Staples today and I was disappointed when I saw Envisions EN 5100 . Colors looked washed out w/ no brightness... so I've excluded it. newegg.com is offering a Hitachi CML 153XWB for $339 (plus shipping.) I've head some good things about Hitachi monitors so - on the surface at least - it looks to be a pretty good deal. Anyone know anything about this monitor and/or about newegg.com? Thanks

Never heard of newegg before but I wouldn't buy a LCD online unless it was from the manufacture direct. LCDs as you have already noticed are best "viewed" before you buy.

Also ,if your doing any kind of work where colors have to be perfect, cheap LCDs ( those Under $800) may not fit the bill.

Thanks G_H. Unfortunately LCD's in my area are considerably higher priced than what I can find online and are older models to boot. I'm going to check out the KDS RAD 5 at a super Wal*Mart, which is about a half hour drive from where I live. I suppose you are right about mailorder though. Thanks for your input G_H.

Newegg.com is a good place to buy from. I just bought $1800.00 in parts from them. Googlegear.com is another good web store for PC parts. I will agree with GH an LCD monitor would be an item I would need to see before I bought it. Better read newegg's dead pixel policy 3-year limited warranty. Dead Pixels Policy: Replacement and Refund for 8 or more DEAD PIXELS ONLY!

I'll second Rond's good fortune with Newegg! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif I ordered about $500.00 worth of upgrades and they arrived well packaged without a hitch.

And, as Ghost suggested, with monitors always try before you buy! Oft times even seeing them side by side can be misleading due to individual settings. It would be best if you could actually "tweak" them to find your comfort range.

Many thanks Whyzman, Rond, and Ghost. I bought the KDS RAD 5 at Wal-Mart the other day. It cost me an extra thirty-three bucks and a forty mile round trip but I think it's worth it considering the variability of LCD's. Again, thanks for your help.
