Hi All,
I have been thinking of fitting a bigger hard drive [40gb] to my system. It is a Pentium 11 266 [3.2gb HD] with a chaintech 6LTM motherboard, and version 4.51pg Award Bios. I was wondering if anyone knows off hand, how big a hard drive this Bios will recognise? The award and chaintech sites are a bit sketchy to say the least!
I can get an upgrade from the Award site, but don't want to mess around flashing my bios, [especially if the existing bios is adequate] unless it is absolutely necessary. Visions of a dead Pc come to mind!

I understand that some hard drive manufacters provide sofware that will act as a go between for the system Bios and the new hard drive. I would appreciate any first hand advice on this please. Also which hard drives are reliable?
thanks.... Phil

Does the BIOS update specifcally state that it adds support for drives over a certain size?

If it does then you can assume that without it then BIOS will only support smaller sizes. Probably without the update it would be somewhere around 8GB. If the available updates don't mention adding support for drives over a certain size then it probably doesn't add additional support, in which case you will need to either use the overlay softwre or an add in IDE controller card.
