Hard drive advice

i am installing a new hard drive into my hp & when i put it in can i put windows xp in instead of the original win98 that came with my computer on the recovery cd?

What model HP?

Some models need to have the BIOs updated before they will work with XP and that can be an adventure........

But, in general the anwser would be yes....but you will need full versions of whatever other software you would like to keep that also came in the bundle....and do a full install on the new drive, don't run the recovery first, just use the XP CD.
