I have a Presario 5634, want to put in 120 gig internal hard drive. I've heard Compaq is very proprietary, that i can't just put any hard drive in...yes? no?, if yea, where do i find out compatability? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

How old is your system? What type of motherboard and bios do you have? Do you have restore disks?

Are you adding this to your current drive or replacing the current drive? If you replace the drive, you most likely won't be able to use your restore disk in the system with the new drive.
If you're just adding the new drive, it shouldn't cause a problem as long as your BIOS supports disks that size. Even if it doesn't, the drive overlay program that comes with the drive should make it work...

When all else fails, read the instructions.
Microsoft Knowledge Base (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;rid;kbinfo)
Drivers (http://www.driverguide.com)
Google (http://www.google.com)
Basically, If your BIOS is new enough (about 2-3yrs old) idt should support that large of a drive, if it is older than about 3-4 years old then it may (and even then not all models did it htat way) have some of the BIOS info on the drive (more like extended settings the basic settings are sitll on the chip), just make sure you have all your restore materials (the CDs) and have the BIOS setup to autodetect the drives, before you make the switch........or you can add the new drive as slave, and copy the existing drive to it (after formatting and partioning), then replace the old one with the new one.......
