I'm not sure about the PRO, but with the new free version 8, I've noticed that my reading speed has increased along with my comprehension, spelling, and ability to find objects I've misplaced recently (no idea yet if it will have any impact on stuff I've not been able to locate for a long period of time), but it's pretty exciting just the same... ;)

Kind of...except for some strange reason there doesn't seem to be a way to stop it from looking for updates (except block all web access for it...).

What do you suppose it's trying to update? It has everything already!

It does a periodic check for updates...and I installed it last week. (and yes it was out last week...or maybe it was out Christmas eve....). And I've stopped it twice...at least it lets you know it is doing it.
